Super Saturday
Saturday, February 16, 2008
10:00AM – 3:00PM
On Saturday, February 16, 2008, the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA) will host Super Saturday at 21 sites throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Annandale High School and Norfolk State University will host their event on February 23, 2008. Super Saturday is an annual VASFAA event that invites college-bound students to a location near them to receive free assistance in completing the FAFSA on-line, the form required by colleges, universities, and private career schools to qualify for federal grants and loans.
The seventh annual Super Saturday will be held from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM at locations across Virginia that include Annandale, Arlington, Blacksburg, Charlottesville, Danville, Farmville, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Melfa, Middletown, New Kent, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, Staunton, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Wise.
Each Super Saturday will include a financial aid workshop that explains the federal and state financial aid process, followed by a Q & A period. Most sites have computers available for attendees to apply for federal aid electronically. This event is open to parents and students of all grade levels as well as adult students.
The main focus of Super Saturday is to offer one-on-one assistance in completing the FAFSA. Financial aid professionals will be available at each host site. Once the student leaves the event, he/she will have initiated the financial aid process for any college they are interested in attending and will have met the priority filing date for most Virginia colleges. The financial aid process can be daunting and VASFAA hopes that by offering students Super Saturday; one day of free, expert assistance to accurately complete the FAFSA; we can help hundreds easily begin the process.
A $100 Book Scholarship will be awarded at each Super Saturday site to be used at the winner’s college of choice during the 2008-09 academic year.
Super Saturday is open to the general public and assistance with the FASFA will be given to new as well as returning college students. VASFAA is a non-profit organization of student financial aid professionals committed to the educational well-being of Virginia’s college-bound students.
