GUY GIBBS
Position:
President-Elect, SASFAA
Statement of
Candidacy
It is an honor to be nominated by one’s peers for the
position of President-Elect of SASFAA.
I take this opportunity to thank those who submitted my
name to the Nominations and Elections Committee and to that
committee for their support.
In January 1987
I took a job in financial aid in Virginia after having been
out of education for several years.
I had been involved in financial aid early in my career
but little did I realize the changes that had taken place over
the years. I am
thankful to the mentors that helped me to “relearn”
financial aid and to my state association and SASFAA for the
excellent training they provide.
In the summer of
1987 I attended the new aid workshop and from that time I have
remained active in VASFAA and SASFAA.
I’ve served on committees, chaired others, been
elected as a representative-at-large, treasurer and in
1998-1999 served VASFAA as president.
During this time I’ve remained active in SASFAA
including a two-year period as an instructor at the summer new
aid workshop. I
have served on the SASFAA board as Virginia state president
and was appointed by the Board as secretary in 1999-2000.
You subsequently elected me as your secretary for the
period 2000-2002.
SASFAA is one of
the strongest and most innovative regional associations.
It has been a pleasure to be a member these past 16
years and to have the opportunity to serve on the board for
four years. I am
committed to this association.
My involvement and contribution to the work of the
Board as state president and more recently as secretary
reflect my commitment to the membership, the financial aid
profession and further define my qualifications.
If
elected President-Elect, I promise you that I will devote my
energies to furthering the goals of SASFAA and serving the
membership; however, along with you, I will not lose sight of
our responsibility to serve students, their families and our
college community.
Endorsement
Statement for the Candidacy of Guy Gibbs for SASFAA President
Cast
your vote for Guy Gibbs, Associate Director of Financial Aid,
Northern Virginia Community College for President-elect of
SASFAA. Guy has
served on behalf of financial aid professionals and in support
of students at both the state and regional levels in numerous
capacities. He
has held progressively more responsible positions at the state
level culminating in President in 1998-99 of the Virginia
Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA)
and as Secretary from 1999-2002 for SASFAA.
In addition to these leadership roles, Guy has
significant training experience professionally and as a
faculty member of the SASFAA New Aid Officer Summer Workshop
and chair of the VASFAA Training Committee. He is articulate, informed and accountable to member needs.
He is an excellent choice for the collaborative and
leadership qualities demanded of the SASFAA President.
