Nominations and Elections Submitted
by: Brad Barnett, Past President, Awards & Nominations
Committee Chair
“The Business of Leaders, of heroes, is tricky. Leadership is not something that is done to people, like fixing your teeth. Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better.” Bill Bradley, U.S. Senator VASFAA Seeks Nominations for Board Positions The VASFAA Awards and Nominations Committee is seeking candidates for President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer-Elect, and two Representative-at-Large positions on the VASFAA Executive Board for 2007-08.You can find detailed information about each of these positions in the VASFAA Policies and Procedures Manual on the VASFAA web site at www.vasfaa.org/docs/toc_about.html. The committee will present a recommended slate to the VASFAA Board for approval during the Winter Board Meeting, which generally occurs in late January or early February. The approved slate of candidates will be presented to the VASFAA membership prior to the 2007 VASFAA Annual Conference in May, 2007. Here are some questions and answers about the process: Q: May I nominate myself? Q: May I nominate my colleague? Q: May I nominate more than one person? Q: I’m interested in becoming more involved with VASFAA,
but I’m concerned that I won’t have enough time to work
on the Board. How much time is involved? Q: How many times does the Board meet?
Q: What does each of these positions do? Q: How do I nominate someone?
Q: How can I promote my candidacy?
A: VASFAA does not permit promotional materials or campaigning. During the annual business meeting each candidate is given the opportunity to address the membership (not to exceed three minutes), and information about the candidates will be published in the VASFAA Voice. Speaking as someone who is currently serving in his sixth year as a member of the VASFAA Board, I can tell you that being a part of the board has been one of the most fulfilling things I have done as a member of this profession. I invite others to take part in this wonderful experience. Please consider this a call for nominations and support your professional organization by participating in its governance. Thanks!
