Community Service Project
Leader Dogs for the Blind
Leader Dogs for the Blind is a non-profit organization that has
been providing independent travel to the blind community through the use of Leader
Dogs since its founding in 1939. Over the years, Leader Dogs for the Blind has
provided independent mobility to more than 14,000 visually impaired individuals.
The services of the school are provided free of charge. The school also provides
classes for orientation and mobility, computer training, and Trekker GPS.
Every gift, large or small, makes a difference. Your gift allows
for the funding of critical needs, such as maintaining the residence facility
where the students stay for 26 days while they learn to navigate with a Leader
Dog. These funds also allow Leader Dogs for the Blind to maintain the kennel
where future Leader Dogs live during their training. The maintenance of training
vehicles, student buses, technology lab and veterinary clinic, amongst other
programs, also depend on your gifts.
Your support provides the foundation for current and future
programs. Most importantly, it makes an extraordinary impact on students by
providing the gifts of independence, freedom and
opportunity.
Your gift is 100% tax deductible, and documentation to support
your donation will be provided. Please note that our very own VASFAA member,
Liza Bruce, has greatly benefited from this program, and it is because of her
affiliation with Leader Dogs for the Blind that we all have come to share her
love, appreciation and respect for her Leader Dog, and our friend, BAXTER!
Please come with your donations and help to make this service project a success.
