Dear VASFAA Colleagues,
I want to personally welcome you to Liberty University for the 2012 VASFAA Fall Non-Conference Event. I trust that this event will be helpful in developing your knowledge in the ever-changing world of financial aid. It is important that we band together as professional peers at the state level due to the major implications of the recent regulatory changes. We are fortunate to have accomplished speakers from the U.S. Department of Education, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, Educational Credit Management Corporation, University of Mary Washington and Virginia Tech that will educate us on these changes and how this will impact our universities and colleges going forward. 2012 VASFAA Fall Non-Conference Workshop:
The VASFAA Non-Conference Training Committee is inviting you to the VASFAA Fall Training Workshop on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 10:00am-4:00pm at Liberty University!
The Fall Workshop is FREE to all active VASFAA members and lunch will be provided.
Scheduled Events include:
• Federal update from Greg Martin with the Department of Education
• State update from Lee Andes with the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia
• Pell LEU presentation from Debra Harber (University of Mary Washington) and Donna Taylor (Virginia Tech)
• Financial literacy presentation from Pamela Craw with ECMC
Registration opens at 9:00am at Liberty University's Hancock Welcome Center. There will also be a drawing for door prizes including two free classes from Liberty University. We can’t wait to see you there!

The proposed amendment to the VASFAA By-Laws also passed.

The VASFAA Board has proposed the following change to the By-Laws.
The By-Laws currently state under Article XI-Nominations and Elections; Voting that, "The President-Elect and President must be a person employed full time in financial aid administration at or by a post-secondary educational institute. The Secretary, Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect and Representative(s)-at-Large must be Active members of the association as specified in Article IV Nominations of officers."
The VASFAA Board proposes to amend this By-Law to state that "All Elected Board positions must be Active, paid members of the Association". With this change, any paid, Active member will be eligible to run for the office of President-Elect and President.
This change will be voted upon in the upcoming election for VASFAA officers for 2012-2013. Please check out our slate of candidates on the Voting Site.

Verification and Professional Judgement Workshop to be held at Virginia Commonwealth University on Thursday, March 15th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Karen McCarthy, NASFAA Trainer, will present on Professional Judgement; and Donna Taylor, from Virginia Tech, will present on Verification.

The VASFAA Winter Board Meeting will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 on the Moorefield Campus of ECPI -= Richmond, VA from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Please contact any member of the VASFAA Board if you have items that you would like for the Board to consider during the meeting.
