New Announcements  (see Announcements Section for details)

Dear VASFAA Colleagues,

It is indeed an honor and privilege to serve as your 2011-12 VASFAA President! As we approach another year in the fabulous and fantastic world of financial aid, it gives me great pleasure to announce VASFAA’s theme: “Magnifying the Power of VASFAA through Leadership, Development, Training and Volunteer Services”. I am committed to ensuring that the vision and mission of VASFAA continue by promoting four components that have transcended our Association by offering programs and services that promote leadership, development, training opportunities, and to increase volunteer services.

As your VASFAA President, and with the assistance of your elected Board of Directors, we will continue the tradition of working to strengthen VASFAA as a recognized professional association for individuals working in higher education funding and post-secondary education preparation. It is our goal to accomplish this by offering training opportunities via our annual conference and non-conference workshops and webcasts. In addition, it is our goal to continue to ensure that students, their families, and citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia are provided with technical application and practice guidance from knowledgeable professions by providing you with federal and state regulatory changes as well as serve as your advocate in federal and state regulatory challenges. We are also striving to remain fiscally solvent within our association, to insure that even in the toughest economic times, we will be able to continue to provide the necessary training for our membership.

Please join me!  We need you to become members, to share your knowledge and expertise, to learn and grow with us, to volunteer to serve – and to help make VASFAA the enviable “ASFAA” of our southern region and of the entire NASFAA family!

I look forward to meeting and seeing at our 2012 Annual Spring Conference in Norfolk, VA in May 2012.

Sincerely,

Melissa J. Barnes

2011-12 VASFAA President
