President’s Message - Margaret Murphy

 

2012-2013 Winding Down!

I believe all who attended the annual conference would agree that this year's conference was one of our best ever!  Congratulations and thanks to Elizabeth “Biz” Daniel and her conference committee for their hard work and dedication in producing and directing this event.  Well attended sessions (including the sector meetings at the end of conference), the numbers of volunteer forms and general high praises reflect well the initial feedback on the event.  For those in attendance, please look for the email with an electronic link for session evaluations.  Your input is important for preparations for future events. 

Awards were announced during Tuesday’s award luncheon.  Roderick “Rod” Moore received recognition not on only on his retirement but also for VASFAA’s highest honor as Life Member.   Zita Barree and Donna Taylor each received an Excellence Award for their outstanding service to VASFAA.  Karen M. Schinabeck was recognized for her retirement from our profession this year after many years of service.   Daniel McClannahan was tapped as New Professional of the Year.  During Wednesday’s breakfast the Committee of the Year (2011-2012) was revealed.  Actually that would be committees:  Awareness and Conference Committees were recognized as committees of the year for 2011-2012. 

Our election results were reported on Wednesday morning during the closing business meeting.  Thank you to all who voted in a very close run for all openings with multiple candidates!  Thank you also to those willing to put themselves forward for the ballot.  Your willingness to serve is much appreciated. 

Newly elected for the 2013-2014 year are Tarik Boyd, Kesha Wilson, Richard Gardner, Patrice Johnson and Paul Farrar.  Your 2013-2014 board  of directors includes:

Thank you to Melissa Barnes, Lisa Tumer and Etta Feinauer for their service to VASFAA as they leave the board at the end June.  Membership is encouraged to use their access via the membership directory to contact their current or new board with any questions, comments or concerns. 

For those who submitted volunteer forms, Ashley Reich will be working to appoint committee chairs and members as quickly as possible.  The transition board meeting has been set for June 24 and 25 at Graves Mountain Resort.   Current and new committee chairs are urged to attend this critical meeting and will be contacted by Ashley with details of their schedule. 

This year has passed with the speed of a supersonic train and the final station is fast approaching!  Many thanks to the association for the privilege of serving as your President this year.  Thank you to those who have served as committee chairs and members throughout the year.  The experiences of this year can be duplicated by others.

Start now by volunteering for committees, run for the board in future elections, and serve our association.    I promise that you will receive much more than you give!
